“All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” John 6:37

I love the interaction Jesus has with his disciples in this chapter. What stands out to me is that in verse 6, Jesus got their attention by performing a miracle that he knew they would recognize. He tells them how and where to catch fish after a night of fishing failure.

I love to emphasize the visceral reactions the Disciples had because it is so telling to me how little they realized yet how patient God is with His children.

In this chapter, we see the physical torture that Jesus endured at the hands of the Romans, and the emotional torture He suffered as His own people, the Jews, when they turned against Him and called for His death. The chapter ends with Jesus’ last words, “It is finished” and then He gave up His spirit.

Chapter 18 of John contains the account of Jesus’ arrest and trial. Throughout the entire day, He never wavered in the least in knowing who He was or what He was about.

How does it feel knowing someone is praying for you? When you’re experiencing some adversity, challenge, major decision or uncertainty in life…isn’t it comforting to know that someone is praying for YOU?

As we wade through the sorrow that festers like an open wound into the new year, God does give us a guarantee that will be taken from us. He promises us that one day our sorrow will be turned into joy.

This is one of my favorite chapters in all of the New Testament. What a fountain of encouragement and challenge. It seems even more relevant that Jesus speaks about the world hating his disciples.

If I were to ask you, what is the most important part of a prayer, what would you say? Is it the proper introduction?
