When Jesus died on the cross for you, he did not only pay your punishment for sin, he also purchased for you all of God’s promises in the Bible (2 Pet 1:3-4). God’s promises are not for everyone. They are unique and special for the adopted children of God through faith in Jesus.
Now, that we are almost one month deep into 2020, I wanted to remind us of 20 blood-bought promises that will be true for you all year long (and ever year after). No matter the trial or pain this year, these promises will remain. Enjoy, be encouraged, and pass it along.
-
God is with you. Always. (Matt. 28:20, John 14:16)
-
God is for you. He is for your holiness, joy, life. He roots for you and He is never against you. (Rom. 8:31)
-
God does not condemn you. You will commit daily sin this year, and in those moments you will deserve death. But because you are in Christ Jesus, his blood forgives you and covers you at every moment. (Rom 8:1)
-
God loves you. Our God bled for you, to have you. You are his adopted child. His love surrounds you, is steadfast toward you, and nothing can ever separate you from his love. (Ps. 32:10; Rom 8:39; Rom 5:8; 1 John 4:7-12)
-
God will provide for you. Out of his glorious riches he will supply your every need—spiritual, emotional, and physical. (Phil 4:19)
-
God will help you. He is your very present help and refuge in time of need. (Psalm 46:1)
-
God is working all things for your good. Sin, suffering, sickness, and sunshine—all of it is for your good. More than that, God rejoices in doing you good. (Rom 8:28; Jer 32:41)
-
God will give you new mercies every morning. Every day and every moment, God is pouring out underserved mercy (Lam. 3:23).
-
God will make you like Christ. He will do it one degree at a time. Transformation is a process, but God is working to finish what he started in you. He will do it through his Word, and by the Spirit. (2 Cor. 3:18; 2 Tim 3:16-17; Phil 1:6; Rom 8:29)
-
God will equip you. What he gives you to do, he will provide the strength and enablement to do so that you may do his will, that he might get the glory. (Heb 13:21; 1 Pet 4:10-11).
-
The gospel of God will always have the power to save sinners, every time you speak it. (Rom 1:16)
-
The joy of God will be found when you abide in his presence. He is your highest joy. We will be near to the presence of God when we are sitting with him in his Word and walking in obedience to him. Therefore, obedience is our greatest joy (Ps 16:11; John 15:10-11).
-
The peace of God will always be given to you when you give your anxieties to the Lord in prayer (Phil 4:6-7).
-
The direction of God is given to you when you trust in him and not in your own understanding (Prov 3:5-6).
-
The decisions of God for your life will always be good, perfect, and pleasing to him (Ps 18:30; Ps 135:3, 6).
-
The wisdom of God will be given generously to you when you ask him for it (James 1:5).
-
The security of God will remain no matter how you stumble and fall. You cannot lose your salvation. It is God who keeps you by his grace. Nothing can snatch you out of his hand (Phil 1:6; Jude 24-25; John 10:27-30).
-
The words of God to bear witness to Christ will be given to you in moments of persecution and of sharing the gospel. Therefore, we do not need to fear that moment in advance (Luke 21:13-15).
-
The inheritance of God is being stored up for you, and it will never fade or get boring. You are an heir with Christ. Therefore, we are strengthened to endure to the end. (1 Pet 1:3-4; Rom 8:17-18; 2 Cor 4:16-18).
-
The righteousness of God is counted as your very own righteousness. Therefore, we have nothing to prove. We can live from approval, not for approval. We can live in peace, not for peace. (2 Cor 5:21; Rom 3:23-24).
I encourage you to memorize some of these verses. Take these promises and throw yourself on them in 2020. God cannot lie. Bank your life on it. Every word will prove true.
