Do you remember watching the old TV shows Cheers? The show’s theme song included these lines:
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name
And they’re always glad you came
You want to be where you can see
The troubles are all the same
You want to be where everybody knows your name
This show was popular because it was funny but more importantly because it touched on a very basic need that everyone has. We all need a place to belong. It doesn’t matter if you are a follower of Christ or not – everyone has this need to belong. Everyone has a need to be connected. We want to be known and we want to really know others. Unfortunately in our world today it is seemingly become more difficult to find these connections. We have more and more Facebook friends but fewer and fewer actual friends! This trend from real connections to virtual ones is why it so important for us to focus on connecting with others!
This past Sunday, Pastor Monty preached the last Be, Know, Do message for Connecting with Others. As we looked at this second part of our Mission Statement we have heard how we need to:
Be the Body of Christ
Know Your Role in the Body of Christ
Do Your Part for the Body of Christ
In order to fulfill this part of our Mission we must gain a better understanding of who God has created us to be! We have a great opportunity to help you do this beginning Wednesday, April 10th. This six week class called Finding Your PLACE in Life and Ministry will focus on the unique way God has created each of us.
The class covers five areas that will help you gain a better understanding of how God has created you and where God may have equipped you to serve. 1) Each of us should know our Spiritual Gifts. 2) We need to understand our Personality Type and how God wants to use it in service of others. 3) We should be using our God given abilities in serving the local church. 4) God wants us to use the things we are passionate about in serving others. 5) Each of the experiences we have had in this life can help us minister more effectively to those going through similar situations.
We as members of the Body of Christ need each other in order to accomplish all that God desires to do in and through our church. Come and join us for this journey of self-discovery. This class will help prepare you to connect with others and fulfill your role in the body of Christ.
