You may have heard this song on the radio lately. It is catchy and upbeat. But more than anything, my hope is this song reminds you of the faithfulness of God. We worship Him because of who He is and what he has done. In reality, everything He does is good, and we see that in Genesis 1. But for our own hearts and minds, our reflection on the works of God in our lives is one of the greatest faith-builders. Even when we go through trials, we can look (often look back) and see God working for His glory and for our good. So, as you listen to this song, consider what it is that he is doing around you. Perhaps you are in a season of blessings. Perhaps you are in a time of trial that seemingly never ends. Either way, faith is turning to and looking for our God working in the midst and trusting that He is good and He keeps His promises.
Verse 1
Come let us worship our King
Come let us bow at His feet
(Psalm 65:6 – Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!)
He has done great things
See what our Savior has done
(Revelation 12:11 – And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony)
See how His love overcomes
(Psalm 34:8 – Oh taste and see that the Lord is good!)
He has done great things
He has done great things
Chorus
Oh, hero of Heaven, You conquer the grave
(“I know you are looking for Jesus.” Then the angel said, “He is not here; for He is risen” Matthew 28:6)
You free every captive and break every chain
(Jesus was sent to proclaim liberty to the captives. See Luke 4:18-21)
Oh God, You have done great things
We dance in Your freedom, awake and alive
(Ephesians 5:14 – Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.)
Oh Jesus, our Savior, Your name lifted high
(Isaiah 6:1 – I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up)
Oh God, You have done great things
Verse 2
You’ve been faithful through every storm
You’ll be faithful forevermore
(2 Thessalonians 3:3 – But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.)
You have done great things
And I know You will do it again
For Your promise is “Yes and amen”
(2 Corinthians 1:20 – For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.)
You will do great things
God, You do great things
Bridge
Hallelujah God, above it all
Hallelujah God, unshakable
Hallelujah, You have done great things
The truth is, the entire purpose of Scripture is to show us that God is faithful. The entire history of redemption is God proving His faithfulness to an unfaithful humanity. Every act of God toward mankind is a “great thing” because the only thing we deserve is the wrath of God. Even allowing us to suffer is an act of mercy because it is often through suffering that we finally decide to turn to God.
Take the time this week to thank Him for the “great things” that you might be overlooking in your life.
