Middle School One Degree
Sunday, October 1 | 3-6 pm | Caish Home (16602 Brattice Mill Pl)
One Degree is a relaxed afternoon at a host home where middle school students can get together and enjoy each other’s company over 9-Square, snacks, and Jesus-focused conversations about middle school specific topics. This year will focus on our identity in Christ. The goal is to move one degree closer toward becoming like Jesus. No prior registration is needed for this event. Cost: $5
Student and Family Prayerwalk
Sunday, October 29 | 3-6pm | Meet at the Refuge
Last year, we had great success prayerwalking our next door community of Deer Run. This year we will press on in our goal to saturate the neighborhood with Christ by praying and interacting with neighbors. This event is for all students and their families as we walk and pray that Deer Run will be reached with the gospel. It will also be a missional afternoon as we look to pass out goodies and an invitation to Fall Festival to those we see walking in the neighborhood. The goal is to create gospel conversations with community members.
Tuesday, October 31 | 5-8pm
Students are encouraged to volunteer at Fall Festival—our largest outreach event of the year! Students can run games, serve food, help with set-up, and more. To sign up, look for the volunteer sign-up sheet in the Refuge starting in October, or email Preschool Director Janelle Collazo at email@example.com
One Degree: High School
Sunday, November 5 | 3-6pm | Poynter Home (20200 Duval Rd, Moseley, VA)
One Degree is a relaxed afternoon at someone’s home where we get together as high school students and enjoy each other’s company around a fire-pit, eating s’mores, drinking hot chocolate, and playing 9-Square. Most importantly, we have conversations focused on Jesus about specific topics geared specifically for you as high schoolers. We will focus on how to share Jesus without freaking out. The goal is to move one degree closer toward becoming like Jesus. No prior registration is needed for this event. Cost: $5
Ugly Sweater Christmas Party
Wednesday, December 13 | 6:30-8pm | Refuge Student Building
We will end our semester by wearing our favorite grandma Christmas sweater. There will be plenty of food, too much candy, hilarious Christmas games, hot cocoa, prizes for the winners, and Buddy the Elf.
About Swift Creek Student Ministry
The aim of Swift Creek Students is to treasure Jesus and see Him as far better than everything else this world has to offer (Phil 3:8). From 6th-12th grade, students go through one of the most significant periods of transformation in their life. During these years, we long to see students be transformed into the image of Jesus Christ in every way through the power of the gospel (2 Cor. 3:18), and for them to see the Name of Jesus magnified and proclaimed to their family, friends, school, community, and to the ends of the earth (Phil. 1:20-21; 1 Pet 2:9). Students are being transformed by:
- Connecting with God through Christ-centered worship & discipleship (Phil. 3:8, 2 Tim. 2:2)
- Connecting with other students through Christ-centered relationships (Ephesians 4:15-16).
- Connecting students and others with God through obeying our Christ-centered mission (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 10:45)
We are serious about partnering alongside parents to see this accomplished. Our goal is to equip parents to be the primary disciple-maker of their home, with the ultimate aim that their teenager will grow up into adulthood loving and serving Christ with their whole heart, mind, soul, and strength (Eph. 6:4, Dt. 6:4-9, Eph. 4:13).
